Quebec 8, Brockton 7 [Quebec leads series 1-0]
@ Quebec City, QC. Time: 3:05 Attendance: 4,415
W: Brett Palanski (1-0) L: Jerry Dunn (0-1) S: None
HR: BRO- Keith Brachold (1), Melvin Falu (1)
Trailing 7-2 after seven and a half innings, Quebec rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth and three more in the ninth to top Brockton 8-7. Several Rox miscues opened the door for the big comeback. After a walk and an error put the first two men on base in the bottom of the eighth, Quebec C Pete LaForest singled home a run and 3B Pat Deschenes struck a big blow with a two-run double to trim the deficit to 7-5. In the ninth Brockton closer Jerry Dunn came on but walked the first two batters he faced. Capitales CF Goef Tomlinson then dropped down a sacrifice bunt that Dunn fielded. But his throw to third was high and went into the bullpen allowing two runs to score and tie the game at seven. With Tomlinson advancing to second, LF Alex Nunez followed with a single to give Quebec the win. The comeback spoiled a fine effort from Brockton starter Wayne Lundgren who went 7 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out six. Deschenes led the way offensively for Quebec with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBI. LaForest and Nunez each had two hits for the Capitales. 2B Melvin Falu and RF Keith Brachold homered for Brockton in the loss.
