Can-Am League Names NJ Jackals Eduard Reyes & Sussex County Miners Trey Hair Pitcher and Batter of the Month

Thornhill, Ontario - Sussex County Miners 2B Trey Hair has been named May's Batter of the Month and

New Jersey Jackals RHP Eduard Reyes is May's Pitcher of the Month as selected by PointStreak, the league's official statistician.

Hair hit .400 (20-for-50) on the month, scoring 11 runs, driving in 10 and knocking six doubles. The 24-year-old had at least one hit in 12 of his 13 games, with multiple hits in six contests, including a 4-for-4 performance against Trois-Rivières on May 23. He was also named Batter of the Week for the week ending May 26.

With two games in June also taking place, Hair is currently fourth in the league with a .397 average, first with seven doubles and 36 total bases and tied for third with 14 RBI,

2019 marks Hair's first season in independent baseball after spending the previous two years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, reaching as high as Single-A. The Firth, Neb., native was a 37th-round choice by Tampa Bay in the 2017 draft out of the University of Evansville.

As for Reyes, the Bonao, Dominic Republic, native leads the league with a 1.06 ERA to go along with a 2-0 record and 18 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .210 against the 28-year-old, with just one extra-base hit so far this season.

His outings on the month:

May 19: earned the win in a 5-1 victory over Ottawa, allowing one run on five hits in six innings of work.

May 24: improved his record to 2-0 as the Jackals defeated Trois-Rivières 4-1, throwing five shutout innings while striking out eight.

May 29: gave up a run on four hits in six innings, again fanning eight, earning a no-decision in a 4-2 loss to Québec.

Reyes is pitching in his first professional season since 2013. He had previously pitched in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization for four years.
