July 11, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Trois-Rivieres 6, Quebec 5

Center fielder Alberth Martinez was the difference maker tonight as he launched a solo home run in the eighth inning to help Trois-Rivieres beat Quebec, 6-5.

After two scoreless innings to start off the game, Quebec took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as they scored three runs via a balk, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by LF James McOwen. The Aigles came back with four runs of their own in the fourth, highlighted by a solo home run from DH Taylor Brennan and a two-run single from 2B Taylor Oldham. Trois-Rivieres added a run in the sixth to make it 5-3 before the Capitales tallied single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the contest up at 5-5. After that came the heroics of Martinez as he hit the go-ahead home run in the eighth to put the Aigles up for good.

Martinez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Oldham had a hit in three at-bats and drove in a pair of runs.

Trois-Rivieres pitcher Taylor Hyssong tossed an inning of relief and notched the victory. Hyssong gave up one unearned run on a hit and walked a batter. Hyssong is now 3-0 on the season.

For Quebec in defeat, 2B Nick Gotta went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Sussex County 5, Ottawa 3

Sussex County jumped out to an 2-0 lead through three innings of play and would go on from there to defeat Ottawa, 5-3.

Sussex County increased their advantage to 4-0 in the sixth with a pair of runs and then tacked on another in the seventh as RF Rubi Silva brought home 2B Mikey Reynolds. The Champions tallied all three of their runs in the seventh on RBI singles from RF Steve Brown and 2B Michael Hungate.

Ray went 2-for-5 with two RBIs while Crane had three hits in five at-bats along with a run scored and an RBI.

Miners starting pitcher Jordan Cummings tossed 6 1/3 solid innings and picked-up his first win of the season. Cummings allowed three earned runs on six hits and struck out five batters.
