Can-Am League Game Recap
July 13, 2015 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Sussex County 6, New Jersey 4
The Sussex County Miners scored six runs in the first three innings and held on to take care of the New Jersey Jackals 6-4. The win split the four-game series at two games apiece.
1B Kenny Bryant started things off for the Miners as he hit a line drive in the top of the first that scored LF Johnny Bladel. Bryant scored on a single by 3B Devin Thaut later in the inning. In the second, Bladel doubled the Miners' lead with a two-run home run and in the third DH Jon Dziomba, who had a team-high three hits, plated another two runs for Sussex County with a double down the right field line.
All of the Jackals came with one swing of 3B Mark Threlkeld's bat as he hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh. The blast was his seventh of the season. Threlkeld represented the tying run for New Jersey in the bottom of the ninth but reliever Joe Testa struck him out to end the game. Testa earned his eighth save of the year for working the ninth without allowing a hit and striking out the side.
