Campanale Hat Trick Lifts RiverKings over IceGators

Southaven, Mississippi--For the second night in a row, the Louisiana IceGators found themselves in an early rut against the Mississippi RiverKings. This time, the IceGators were unable to recover. Chris Campanale recorded a hat trick within the first 14 minutes of the game, setting up a 5-1 RiverKing victory. Matt Harrington and Mike MacDonald added a goal each in the second period, while Matt Whitehead picked up four assists.
"We were dead," said IceGators coach Kevin Kaminski. "We had no energy, no passion, and no battle in us. It was an off night for us."
"I'm throwing the game DVD out of the bus window. I saw that performance live already, and I'm not going to watch it again."
The IceGators' lone goal came midway through the third period. Rob Lawrance scored on a powerplay--the only powerplay goal the IceGators scored in four opportunities.
The IceGators can find consolation in the result of another game played Saturday night. The Pensacola IceFlyers lost to the Augusta RiverHawks. That result keeps the IceGators in first place in the SPHL standings by four points.
The IceGators will also get some much needed rest, as they play only one game next week. They host the Mississippi Surge next Saturday in the Cajundome. Game time is 7:05 P. M.
"We're going to shake this off, regroup, and recharge our batteries," Kaminski said. "It'll be good to get away from the rink for a couple of days and get some team bonding."
"We've had two amazing streaks to get us where we are now. We have to be proud of that, stay confident, and keep believing. Success in hockey comes from good teams responding after a loss like this. We're a great team, and we're going to bounce back."
