Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-A hat trick Saturday by Waterloo Black Hawks forward Taylor Cammarata helped the 16-year-old claim a share of the United States Hockey League's CCM Offensive Player of the Week award, the USHL announced Monday.
Cammarata's three-goal performance versus the Sioux City Musketeers was the first by a Black Hawk since John Siemer scored four times in a contest against the Chicago Steel on March 23, 2011. After accomplishing the feat - entirely at even-strength - within the first 28 minutes of Saturday's 6-3 win, Cammarata also added an assist in the third period. He finished the weekend with four goals and five points, including a score to tie Friday's game against the Cedar Rapids in the second period after Waterloo had fallen behind 3-1. The Hawks went on to a 6-5 victory in that game. Cammarata shared the award with Omaha forward Max Vallis who recorded four goals in two Lancer wins.
Cammarata, a Plymouth, Minnesota, native, leads the Black Hawks in goals (16), assists (18), and points (34). A University of Minnesota recruit, he ranks seventh in USHL scoring this season.
"The team needed big contributions from Taylor and his whole line, and they came up big," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "He and Mark Naclerio, and Ryan Papa have shown a lot of hustle on top of their natural skill."
Cammarata was previously awarded the USHL's CCM Offensive Player of the Week honor during the final week of November. Defenseman Mitch Witek has also been a USHL Player of the Week in 2011-2012.
The Hawks' next four games are on the road, beginning Friday with a weekend series against the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska. The next home game at Young Arena is scheduled for Sunday, January 29th versus the Des Moines Buccaneers at 3:05 PM. Tickets for the contest are on sale now through waterlooblackhawks.com.
