Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Fargo, ND-Once again the Sioux Falls Stampede outshot their opponent, but once again they came up short, falling 4-0 to the Fargo Force Monday night in Fargo. The loss dropped the Stampede's record to 11-18-1 and in 7th place in the Western Conference. It marked the fifth time this season the Herd have been shutout. The Stampede outshot the Force 27 to 24, but couldn't find the back of the net. Charlie Lindgren took the loss in goal for the Herd with 20 saves.
The Force grabbed the first goal of the game 3:04 in when Alex Iafallo knocked in a loose rebound to give the Force a 1-0 lead. Gabe Gurtler charged towards the Stampede net, but his shot was stopped by the glove and stick of Charlie Lindgren. The rebound however, jumped out to Iafallo who put it away to give the Force. The Stampede had three powerplay chances in the period and had several good scoring chances, but couldn't get anything past Fargo netminder Zane Gothberg. The Herd outshot the Force 12-8 in the period.
The Stampede's second period woes continued as Bryn Chyzyk scored 11:06 in on the powerplay. Chyzyk picked up a bouncing puck and slipped the puck through the pads of Lindgren. The Force added another powerplay goal at 15:02 when Nicholas Stoskopf took a pass in the slot from Justin Wade and one-timed the puck past the glove side of Lindgren to give the Force a commanding 3-0 lead. Fargo outshot the Herd 10-6 in the period. The Stampede have now been outscored 39 to 20 in the second period this season.
The Herd tried to rally in the third, but were unable to muster much except for a few quality scoring chances, but again Gothberg was there to shut down the offense and keep the Stampede off the board. Lindgren got pulled with just over three minutes remaining to try and spark the offense, but an empty net goal with 15 seconds remaining put the game away for the Force.
The Stampede finished the night 0 for 4 on the powerplay while Fargo was 1 for 4. The Herd will look to rebound Wednesday when they face I-29 rival Sioux City at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Herd trail the Musketeers by just one point for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Game time is 7:05 PM and tickets are available at the Sioux Falls Arena Box Office.
