Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Almost one year to the day after the United States Hockey League conferred its Rookie of the Year award on Taylor Cammarata last spring, the league has recognized the Waterloo Black Hawks' top scorer as both its Forward and Player of the Year for 2012/13 on Wednesday.

The Plymouth, Minnesota native led not only the Black Hawks but the entire USHL with 93 points in 59 regular season appearances. His 38 goals were also the best figure in the league, while 55 assists placed him second only to linemate Justin Kloos. Other notable metrics of Cammarata's success were his 21.1% shooting percentage (second in the USHL), +39 plus/minus rating (best on the team, fourth in the league), ten power play goals (tied for most among Waterloo skaters), five game-winning goals (second on the roster), and three shootout markers (club best in 2012/13). The University of Minnesota recruit also helped the U.S. Junior Select Team to a gold medal at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge and appeared in USA Hockey's All-American Prospects Game and the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game during 2012/13.

"There is no question Taylor is an offensively gifted player, and he produced a tremendous number of points in Waterloo," said Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "Winning these awards puts him in select company, and our organization is very happy for him."

Cammarata joins former Hawks Jason Blake (1994) and Peter Ferraro (1992) as the only Waterloo players to win league Player of the Year and Forward of the Year honors. He is the first player in USHL history to claim either title after being named Rookie of the Year the prior season. Cammarata's remarkable career with the Hawks places him first in assists (97) during the team's junior era and among the leaders in points (162, 2nd), and goals (65, 5th). Separately, his 21 postseason points in 20 USHL playoff games also tie him for second in franchise history.

The Black Hawks won 74 regular season games during Cammarata's two years in Waterloo. In 2012/13, the organization tied a franchise record with 39 victories.

The USHL's Forward and Player of the Year awards were determined by a vote of league coaches and general managers.
