Taylor Cammarata Named Both USHL Forward and Player of the Year

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced that Taylor Cammarata of the Waterloo Black Hawks has been named both the 2012-13 USHL Forward of the Year and USHL Player of the Year as determined by a vote of USHL coaches and general managers.

Cammarata led the USHL with 93 points (38g, 55a) in 59 regular season games. That total was the second most points scored in the USHL Tier 1 era (2002-present), following the 104 points (54g, 50a) tallied by Kevin Roy of the Lincoln Stars last season. Cammarata's 38 goals also led the League and were the third highest total by a player in the USHL Tier 1 era. Five of his goals were game-winners, and he scored his 38 goals on 180 shots to post the second best shooting percentage in the USHL (.211).

The Plymouth, Minnesota native produced 29 multi-point games this season, including a six-point effort (2g, 4a) in the 8-3 win over Youngstown on October 28th to establish a League season high for points in one game. The big night was part of a seven-game point streak in which he recorded multiple points in all seven contests. He doubled that streak by scoring in 14 straight games from December 1st to January 12th, accumulating 22 points (9g, 13a) over that span. Cammarata finished the regular season riding an eight-game point streak (5g, 10a), leading the Black Hawks to victories in all eight outings.

He compiled a plus-39 rating this season, the fourth highest mark in the League and the best plus/minus by a Black Hawks player in the Tier 1 era. He posted a USHL career high plus-five rating during his six-point game on October 28th. The forward helped lead Waterloo to the best power play percentage in the League (25.4%) as he produced 27 points (10g, 17a) on the man-advantage, trailing only teammate Justin Kloos (10g, 21a) for the most power play points in the USHL.

Cammarata, who celebrated his 18th birthday on Monday, finishes his USHL career with 162 points (65g, 97a) in 116 regular season games to rank fourth in scoring during the USHL Tier 1 era. He leaves his name all over the Waterloo Black Hawks record book as he is tops in assists, second in points, and fifth in goals during the team's junior era. He also added 21 points (10g, 11a) in 20 USHL career playoff games which included leading the Black Hawks to the 2012 Clark Cup Final.

By being named both USHL Forward of the Year and USHL Player of the Year, Cammarata has completed a unique "hat trick". He was named USHL Rookie of the Year last season, therefore becoming the first player in history to earn all three awards in his USHL career.

"Beginning last summer in Russia for the Junior Club World Cup, and throughout this season, Taylor Cammarata just lit it up for the Waterloo Black Hawks," said USHL President and Commissioner Skip Prince. There's a very large heart in that compact body, and extraordinary skills. Congratulations to Taylor on well-deserved awards, as he moves on to what should continue to be a special hockey career."

The forward is a prospect for the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft and will begin his college hockey career next season in his home state at the University of Minnesota.

Cammarata joins Jason Blake (1993-94) and Peter Ferraro (1991-92) as Waterloo Black Hawks players to win both the USHL Forward of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season.
