May 15, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS-The Indiana Ice announced today that former defenseman Torey Krug has been called up to the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins, their AHL affiliate. He is the younger brother of current Indy assistant coach Adam Krug.
Krug recently wrapped up his first full season in professional hockey with Providence, finishing fourth among league defensemen in points (45) while leading team blueliners in points, goals (13) and assists (32). Through seven playoff games with the AHL Bruins, the Livonia, MI native has logged three assists. His efforts have earned him several honors throughout the season including being named Providence's Defenseman of the Year and the AHL's Rookie of the Month for February.
This marks the second time Krug has been called up to Boston this season, seeing action against rival Montreal Canadiens in late March. During the contest, he was credited with an assist on a second-period goal by Bruins' forward Rich Peverley. Since signing with the Bruins' organization as a free agent last April, Krug has three NHL games to his credit with a pair of assists.
Prior to his professional debut, Krug was a three-year member of the Michigan State Spartans' hockey team, serving two seasons as captain. In his third year at MSU, he became the first defenseman in school history and the league's first rearguard to win a share of the CCHA Scoring Title since the 1986-87 campaign. While at Michigan State, he was twice named to the First Team-All CCHA and was a Hobey Baker candidate in 2011-2012.
Before suiting up with the Spartans, Krug captained the Ice's 2008-09 Clark Cup Championship team and earned USHL All-Rookie team honors. He finished his only USHL season leading team defensemen in points (47) and goals (10) while leading all league blueliners in assists (37).
This will be Krug's first experience in NHL playoff action with Boston. He could take the ice as early as Thursday, May 16 when the fourth-seeded Bruins host the sixth-seeded New York Rangers in game one of the Eastern Conference Semifinals from TD Garden. The game will be broadcast at 7:30 pm ET on the NBC Sport Network.
The Indiana Ice is now taking deposits for 2013-2014 season ticket packages. Call the Ice office at 317-925-4423 or visit www.indianaice.com.
