Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves were finally able to pull off a win against the first place Bluefield Blue Jays Thursday evening. Johan Camargo came through with a clutch two out go-ahead single to plate Seth Moranda for what would be the game winning run, with the final score being 2-1.

The matchup between the two teams was the epitome of a pitcher's duel as there was only one hit after the fifth inning, and only seven overall between the two teams.

After two straight nights of walking at least seven batters as a team, Danville responded with possibly their best pitching performance of the season. The team walked just one batter and struck out 10 and did not allow a hit after the second inning. Starter Andrew Waszak gave up one lone run in the second, which was all that Bluefield could muster. Relievers Jordan Sechler and Richie Tate were dominant out of the bullpen to keep the Jays offense at bay.

Sechler threw three perfect innings with Tate following with two innings to pick up his second win of the season. The two combined to allow no hits and Tate surrendered the only walk for Danville.

Bluefield pitching was excellent as well with Chase DeJong and Shane Dawson combined to allow just five hits while walking two and striking out seven. Each pitcher allowed just one earned run in the outing, but they were unable to get any run support from the offense.

The defense for Danville was uncharacteristically bad Thursday as the team committed three errors, which is the most for the team in a single game this season. The team entered the game tied with Pulaski for the top fielding percentage in the league at .975%.

The team will continue the home stand Friday with a doubleheader against the Burlington Royals. The games are slated to start at 5:00 p.m. with the first of two seven inning contests. The second game is slated to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Friday will also be the makeup of the July 3rd Fireworks that were rained out earlier this season.
