Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import linebacker Marc Calixte has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

A product of Laval, Que., Calixte is entering his 10th CFL season and is the longest-serving Calgary Stampeders player. In 2011, Calixte dressed for seven games but missed the final 10 regular-season games due toinjury. Calixte returned to the lineup for the playoffs as the Stamps facedEdmonton in the West Division semifinal.

Calixte recorded six special-team tackles in 2011 and now has 88 during his career.

"We don't ever underestimate the importance and value of strength on special teams," said Hufnagel. "Marc is as effective a special-teams player as you can find in the CFL and it's great that he will be back for a 10th season."

Calixte has played in 138 regular-season games to go along with nine playoff contests and was a member of the Stamps' GreyCup-championship team in 2008.

"I'm proud to have been a member of the Stampeders for my entire CFL career," said Calixte. "I'm looking forward to my 10th season in Calgary and another opportunity to return to the Grey Cup game."

Calixte, who was selected by the Stamps in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2003 CFL Canadian Draft, played three seasons at the University of Tennessee-Martin and recorded 132 unassisted tackles and 82 assisted tackles.
