Rochester, NY - The Calgary Roughnecks were defeated by the Rochester Knighthawks 14-13 on Saturday night at Blue Cross arena in Rochester, in a physical first game of the season.

Despite Rochester opening the scoring, Calgary got out to a comfortable lead early in the game with consecutive goals from Haiden Dickson, Tyler Pace, Dan Taylor and Shane Simpson. Rochester added two more with Harrison Matsuoka and Jesse King replying in equal number for the Roughnecks leaving the score at 6-3. Former Knighthawks player Thomas Hoggarth found the back of the net to start the second quarter, followed by Pace notching his second of the night. Additional Calgary goals by Tanner Cook and Dickson kept Calgary ahead 10-5 at the half.

A strong push combined with a goalie change from Rochester in the third quarter saw five goals drop for the home side whilst keeping Calgary to zero, tying the game at 10-10 heading into the final frame. The Knighthawks pulled ahead by three goals before Tyler Pace ended the scoring drought for Calgary to come back within two, and Josh Currier added his first of the night soon after. Rochester added another to their tally, and Calgary were ultimately unable to regain the lead despite a hat-trick goal from Haiden Dickson with 40 seconds left in the game.

Jesse King and Tyler Pace led the Roughnecks offence in points with seven and six respectfully (Tyler Pace 3g, 3a; Jesse King 1g, 6a). The Roughnecks went 1-3 on the powerplay, while the Knighthawks finished 1-4.
