Calgary, AB - The Roughnecks defeated the Panther City Lacrosse Club 12-9 Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary's win tonight eliminates Panther City from the 2023 NLL Playoffs and sets the stage for a Roughnecks-Mammoth West Conference final.
Jesse King was first on the board for Calgary, however three quick PCLC goals saw the visitors take a strong lead early, finishing the quarter up 6-4. The Roughnecks battled back in the second with three straight goals, before Jesse King scored his hattrick goal to allow Calgary their first lead of the night, ending the first half of the game up 8-7.
A huge defensive battle in the third quarter saw only two goals, both from Panther City including one short-handed. Tyler Pace tied things up to start the final frame, before scoring the game winning goal on the power play. Jeff Cornwall closed out the battle with an empty netter to leave the final score at 12-9.
Tyler Pace led the way for the Roughnecks tonight with 8 points from four assists and four goals, including the game winner. Jesse King (3g, 3a) and Tanner Cook (2g, 4a) each ended their night with six points. Zach Currier also had a strong game, adding two goals, blocking two shots, and scooping 11 loose balls. Christian Del Bianco made 37 saves from 46 shots, with the Roughnecks out-shooting Panther City 49-46.
Calgary will now travel to Colorado for the first matchup in the three-game West Conference playoff series, scheduled for Thursday May 11th. Fans in Calgary can catch the game on TSN+. Game two will be played on home turf at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, May 13th at 7:30pm.
