
CAA Silver Anniversary Team Announced

Richmond, VA - (Friday, August 7, 2009) - The Colonial Athletic Association announced its men's soccer Silver Anniversary team, honoring seven former Kickers players including current head coach Leigh Cowlishaw (1993-98) and leading scorer Matthew Delicâte (2004-05-present). Former Kickers named to the Anniversary team include Kevin Knight (2000-08), Trevor McEachron (2006-08), Michael Brady (1994-95), Waughn Hughes (1998) and former Richmond Kickers Future (PDL) forward Dominic Oduro (2005).
As a part of its 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 Championship sports. The teams are selected by a panel of current and former head coaches in the conference. The men's soccer Silver Anniversary team features 19 All-Americans and 13 CAA Players of the Year among the 25-member squad.
Kickers head coach Leigh Cowlishaw is in his 10th year at the helm, leading the Kickers to three USL Finals, taking the USL-2 title in 2006. A native of Burton-on-Trent, England, Cowlishaw has been an integral member of the Kickers' organization since the club's inception in 1993. As a player, he helped the Kickers win the "Double" with the US Open Cup and Premier League Championships in 1995. Off the pitch, he acts as the Richmond Kickers Vice President, Soccer Programs, providing technical direction and guidance for all levels of the Kickers organization and serving on the board of the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club. Cowlishaw was a four-time All-CAA selection and CAA Player of the Year in 1990 at the University of Richmond. Earning two All-America honors, he is Richmond's all-time leader in goals (54), assists (31) and points (139) and holds the Spiders' top season marks in all three categories.
Forward Matthew Delicate returned to Richmond after spending three seasons with the Rochester Rhinos (USL-1) and currently leads the team with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. After concluding a standout collegiate career at Virginia Commonwealth University, Delicate began his professional career with the Kickers were he reached seventh place on the Kickers all-time career goals list with 19 and ninth place on the all-time career points list with 46 in just two seasons. The 2003 CAA Player of the Year led VCU to back-to-back titles and was a three-time All-CAA honoree, holding VCU's all-time record in goals (44) and points (101).
Over nine seasons with the Kickers, midfielder/defender Kevin Knight recorded nearly 20,000 minutes in a Kickers uniform. Ranking fourth on the Kickers all-time games played list with 217, Knight led the Kickers to four USL Championship appearances. Knight is the only James Madison University player to receive All-CAA honors during all four of his seasons and was a two-time All-South Atlantic Region selection. A two-time NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-American, he was named JMU's Male Athlete and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1998-99. Knight retired from professional soccer following the 2008 season to pursue a career as a firefighter.
A regular starter with the Kickers defensive unit, McEachron made 69 appearances with the Kickers over three seasons, leading the Kickers to the USL-2 Championship crown in 2006 and the Finals in 2007. McEachron played every minute of all but one game during the 2007 regular season, contributing to nine shutouts. The Woodbridge, Virginia native also registered a goal and an assist on the season and appeared in all but one game. The 2003 CAA Defender of the year was an integral component of the Old Dominion University defense that did not allow a goal for the first nine games in 2003, and garnered NSCAA All-American First Team, All-CAA First Team, VaSID All-State First Team and College Soccer News All-American First Team honors.
A member of the Kickers squad that claimed the "Double" with the Premier Development League and US Open Cup Championships in 1995, forward Michael Brady made 19 appearances with the Kickers over two seasons. A three-time All-American at American University, the native of Coventry, England was named National Player of the Year in 1985. Leading American to a National Championship that year, he earned CAA Player of the Year honors and holds all-time records in goals (65), assists (29) and points (159). Brady also had a stint with the U.S. Men's National Team 1984-86.
Former William & Mary forward Waughn Hughes made 25 appearances with the Kickers in 1998. The 1996 CAA Player of the Year is William & Mary's all-time leader in goals (52), game-winning goals (21) and points (131). A two-time All-CAA and All-South Atlantic Region honoree, Hughes set the school season records for game-winning goals (11) and points (60) in 1996.
Former Richmond Kickers Future (PDL) forward, Dominic Oduro was also nominated to the CAA Silver Anniversary Team. Currently a member of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer, Oduro spent the 2005 season with the Future, notching 20 goals and nine assists in 18 games played. The 2004 CAA Player of the Year led the CAA with 16 goals and 33 points that season. Helping VCU to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in 2004, Oduro was a third team All-America and All-South Atlantic Region honoree.
The CAA has established itself as one of the nation's best men's soccer conferences. Since sponsorship of the sport began in 1985, the CAA has sent multiple teams to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship in 17 of the 24 seasons, with American University reaching the national championship game in 1985. The conference has had a team reach the NCAA quarterfinals six times.
