Bakersfield Jam News Release
BAKERSFIELD, March 30, 2012 - Derrick Byars hit a clutch three-pointer from the corner with 7.9 seconds left in the game, which sealed the victory for the Jam and extended their home game winning streak to eight games. The Bakersfield Jam improve to 27-18 on the season, while the Los Angeles D-Fenders fall to 34-12.
Bakersfield started the game ice cold from the field as they only made 1-of-11 field goals to begin the game. However, Los Angeles didn't capitalize from Bakersfield's slow start as the Jam were only down four points entering the second quarter (21-17). The D-Fenders were able to extend their lead to 14 points in the second period, but Bakersfield fought back late in the quarter and with a couple of buckets by Juan Pattillo, the Jam cut down their deficit to just three points to end the first half (44-41). Both teams kept it close in the third period, as both Los Angeles and Bakersfield exchanged buckets throughout the quarter. The D-Fenders took a 69-67 lead entering the fourth and final period and led most of the way until the final seconds of the game. With 17.8 seconds left to play, Renaldo Major drove right to the basket and kicked it out to Byars, in which he nailed the game winning shot with 07.9 seconds left in the game. Byars' three-pointer gave the Jam its first lead of the fourth quarter and most importantly, sealed Bakersfield's win.
Bakersfield had six players scoring in double-figures. Renaldo Major led the way with 18 points and six rebounds. Jeremy Wise finished with 16 points and a game-high 11 assists. Juan Pattillo led the Jam off the bench with his 15 points, while Trey Johnson added 12 points of his own off the bench. Derrick Byars and Brian Butch finished with 10 points each, but none bigger than the last the three points by Byars, which made the crowd go wild at the Jam Events Center.
Elijah Millsap led the D-Fenders with a game high 31 points, while also grabbing 11 rebounds. Otis George and Andre Ingram each had 14 points off the bench for Los Angeles.
Up next, Bakersfield will travel southbound to Los Angeles to go up against the same D-Fenders tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. PT. at the Toyota Sports Center.
