El Paso Buzzards News Release
EL PASO, Texas â Finishing one of the most brutal scheduling stretches of the season, the El Paso Buzzards ended it in grand style poaching the Amarillo Gorillas 9-3 at the El Paso County Coliseum. Buzzards' left winger Troy Linna had a hat trick and an assist, right winger Derrell Upton added four assists and defenseman Rhett Dudley collected two goals and an assist in the route.
The Buzzards started off the game looking like a champion. El Paso jumped out to a three-goal lead when Linna and Dudley opened the scoring with the first three goals of the game. Buzzards' defenseman Bob Rapoza and wingers Josh Tymchak and Upton assisted on the goals. Amarillo countered with a goal to make it 3-1 at the end of the period, but that would be the closest the Gorillas would get. The Buzzards outshot Amarillo 19 to 9 in the period.
In the second period, Linna capped his hat trick with a wicked backhanded shot at 4:22, assisted by Upton and defenseman Jason Tessier. Linna's goal started a four-goal second period with Tessier, Jeremy Vokes and Jeff Scharf collected the other goals. The Buzzards outshot the Gorillas 15 to 12, continuing to apply the pressure.
Dudley opened the third period with a blast from the point for his second goal of the game. Rapoza finished the scoring at 10:22 with a rebound to seal the victory.
The win is the second in a row at home and improves the Buzzards to 11-18-4 overall and 9-11-1 at the Nest. Amarillo falls to 19-11-0 overall and 8-4-0 away from the Jungle.
The Buzzards' next game will be at 6 p.m., Thursday in Laredo against the Laredo Bucks. The three stars of the game were:
3rd star: Rhett Dudley
2nd star: Derrell Upton
1st star: Troy Linna
