Buzzards Bring More Offense to the Mix

EL PASO, Texas â The El Paso Buzzards announced today the signing of forward Jeremy Vokes for the 2002-2003 season. Vokes, who turns 24 next Wednesday, begins his fourth professional season this October, and this time he's a Buzzard. Vokes has previously been a member of the Odessa Jackalopes (WPHL), the Arkansas RiverBlades (ECHL), the Baton Rouge Kingfish (ECHL), the Tacoma Sabercats (WCHL), the Rockford IceHogs (UHL) and the Mohawk Valley Prowlers (UHL).
"Jeremy will add some offensive punch to the extremely tough team Coach Coxe is assembling," said Buzzards' general manager Robbie Nichols. "Coach Coxe is excited about adding Jeremy to the line-up, and I cannot wait to see him play here on Saturday, October 26th."
"Going into his fourth professional year, Vokes is still young," said Buzzards' head coach and director of hockey operations Craig Coxe. "He had the opportunity to play in the East Coast Hockey League at a young age and he did not get much of a chance. But he is a player who plays both the middle and right side very well, which is a plus to him as well as my hockey team. He's coming off his best pro year with 30 goals in the United Hockey League last season and we feel he'll bring a lot of offense to our club."
Vokes, a native of Auburn, Massachusetts, has 103 professional points (52-51-103) in 172 games. He played last season for the Rockford IceHogs of the UHL and scored 30 goals and 27 assists for 57 points in 74 games. Vokes, 6'0" and 180 pounds, played against the Buzzards during the 1999-2000 season as a member of the Odessa Jackalopes.
Vokes' signing brings the Buzzards' 2002-2003 roster to eight players. Vokes joins forwards Derek Reynolds, and Derrell Upton as well as defensemen Aaron Boh, Rhett Dudley, Jason Tessier and Trevor Folk and goaltender Matt Carmichael.
The El Paso Buzzards play in the professional Central Hockey League. The team is entering their seventh season of play in El Paso with a home opener on Saturday, October 26th as they take on the San Angelo Outlaws.
