Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, November 21, 2007 - The visiting Butte Daredevils overcame a 16-point first half deficit to defeat the Pittsburgh Xplosion, 108-105, Wednesday night at the Petersen Events Center.

The Xplosion held a 104-102 lead with under two minutes to play, but they could not convert on a 3-on-1 break that would have pushed the lead to two possessions. Butte guard Aaron Cook knocked the ball from Kevin Mickens' grasp, and Mickens knocked the ball out of bounds.

With the game tied at 105, Butte's Jason Miller hit a rainbow jumper that gave the Daredevils the lead for good with 25 seconds to play. Antonio Graves lost a jump ball on a duel possession, and Miller hit one of two free throws with four seconds to play.

Xplosion point guard Shaun Fountain's running three-pointer hit the rim but fell harmlessly to the floor.

Graves led Pittsburgh with 24 points, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Mickens finished with 20 points and 7 rebounds.

The Daredevils came out smoking to open the game, none more than Cook. Cook, who averaged just 7.5ppg in his first two games of the season, scored 10 in the first three and a half minutes of Wednesday's game. He finished with 22 points and 10 assists.

With the Xplosion trailing 14-10 midway through the first period, Pittsburgh went on an 11-2 run, fueled by a sloppy Butte offense and easy, fast-break opportunities. Krauser provided the highlight of the first half with a fast-break alley-oop to Mickens. The Xplosion had 16 assists and 10 steals through the first 24 minutes.

Kevin Mickens' three-point play gave the Xplosion their largest lead at 55-39 with 3:45 left in the first half, but Butte climbed back into the game and the quarter with an 11-4 run to end the first half. The Xplosion did hold on to win the second quarter, 31-30, and sweep the first half quarter points.

Butte took the final five quarter points. The Xplosion will have a second chance at the Daredevils tomorrow night at 7:05 at the Petersen Events Center.
