Butler wins player of the week

Birch Run, MI (January 3, 2005) – The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Great Lakes Storm center Jackie Butler was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of December 26 – January 1.

Butler averaged a double-double for the week with 14.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as he led the Storm to a 3-1 record. He also added 2.3 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game, while shooting 49.0 percent (22 of 45) from the floor. In a 121-111 (5-2) victory over the Rockford Lightning on December 29, Butler posted 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Two nights later he led the Storm with 21 points and 19 rebounds in a 105-95 (6-1) loss to Rockford.

On the season, the 6-foot-10, 250-pound center ranks 2nd in the league in rebounding with 10.3 per contest, while ranking 5th in blocked shots (1.4 per game) and 13th in scoring (16.0).

Butler is the third Storm player to win Player of the Week this season. He is the sixth Great Lakes Storm player to win the Player of the Week Award since their inaugural season in 2002-03. Others to win the award were James Head (1/05/03-1/11/03), Jermaine Jackson (1/19/03-1/25/03), Brian Lubeck (12/21/03-12/27/03), Ezra Williams (11/19/04-11/27/04), and Mark Jones (12/5/04-12/11/04).
