Belleville Bulls News Release

Belleville Bulls General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett has been named an Assistant Coach for Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team for the 2010 IIHF World Under-18 Championship being held April 13-23 in Minsk and Bobruisk, Belarus. Former Montreal Canadiens Head Coach Guy Carbonneau will serve as the Head Coach for the event.

Burnett recently completed his sixth season as General Manager and Head Coach of the Bulls and is a two time OHL Coach of the Year. Burnett led Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team to a gold medal at the 2001 Six Nations Cup in the Czech Republic in his lone previous Team Canada appearance. He has also previously won an OHL Championship with the Guelph Storm and a Calder Cup Championship with the Cape Breton Oilers.

Canada's coaching staff, along with Al Murray, Hockey Canada's head scout of men's national teams, will help select Canada's roster for the 2010 IIHF World Under-18 Championship from players whose Canadian Hockey League teams either missed the playoffs or suffered a first-round loss.

Canada is a two-time champion at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship, earning gold in 2003 and 2008. It finished fourth at the 2009 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota.

The 2010 IIHF World Under-18 Championship opens for Canada on April 13 in Bobruisk when it takes on Switzerland. The Canadians will also face Belarus, Sweden and the United States in the preliminary round.
