Keene Swamp Bats News Release

Michael Burke threw a stellar complete game, as the Keene Swamp Bats fell to the Holyoke Blue Sox 4-2 on Monday night. Keene's starter Nick Kozlowski couldn't quite match his counter part in this playoff game. The right-hander out of Hofstra University lasted five and two thirds innings, surrendering four runs on five hits, also racking up seven strikeouts along the way. Keene jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Ryan Lukach, Hartford, and Dylan Moore, Cyprus College, recorded back to back RBI singles to give the Swamp Bats an early 2-0 lead. Holyoke answered with one run of their own in the fourth with a Brendan Hendriks RBI double. The Blue Sox then exploded with three runs in the sixth inning. Vahn Bozoian singled in two runs with the bases loaded, and then Jason Lombardozzi walked with the bases loaded to drive in the fourth Holyoke run. In relief of Kozlowski, Paul Covelle, Franklin Pierce University, lasted just two thirds of an inning, giving no earned runs on a hit, three walks, and two strikeouts. Sam Triece, out of Washington State University, came on for the rest of the game and pitched a scoreless one and two thirds innings. Holyoke's starter Michael Burke outdueled all of Keene's pitching staff, throwing a complete game. Burke gave up just six hits and no walks with nine strikeouts. Both of his runs given up were unearned. The defeat moves this series to Game Three, which will be played on Tuesday night at Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
