In the bottom of the third Peyton Burdick hit his 21st home run of the season off Andy Otero setting a new franchise record for most home runs in a single season. Unfortunately, the homer was not enough as the Blue Wahoos fell to the Shuckers 5-3 on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

On a 1-0 pitch, Burdick crushed Otero's offering into Pensacola Bay for a 440-foot solo home run, which at the time gave the Wahoos a 2-1 lead. For Burdick, it was his first home run in 16 appearances for the Wahoos, snapping his longest homeless drought of the season. Burdick has now surpassed Aristides Aquino, who hit 20 homers in 2018, and achieved the feat in 114 apps. For Burdick, he hit 21 in only 101 appearances this season.

At one point the Wahoos held a 3-1 lead after three innings; however, the Shuckers outscored the Wahoos 4-0 over the final six innings of the ball game.

Max Meyer took the mound on Wednesday and was tagged for four runs (all earned) on seven hits. Despite the fact that the Shuckers had action on the bases for most of his start, with his strikeout of Thomas Dillard in the first he became the first Wahoos pitcher this season to hit 100 strikeouts on the year. He finished the night with seven strikeouts, giving him 106 on the year, which is the second-most in the Double-A South.

Despite trailing late the Wahoos had chances to score in the seventh and the eighth. Pensacola loaded the bases in both innings; however, both times the Wahoos struck out looking to end the inning. Robbie Hitt worked a scoreless ninth inning for his first career Double-A save.

The Wahoos will hope to bounce back on Thursday with RHP Zach McCambley (1-5, 5.13). He will be opposed by RHP Noah Zavolas (4-7, 4.60). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT. Television coverage is available at MiLB.TV and CST with radio coverage available at bluewahoos.com and ESPN Pensacola.
