August 20, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
Keys RF Steve Bumbry doubled three times as the Keys got to Lynchburg starter David Hale for nine runs en route to a 10-6 shootout win at City Stadium on Saturday evening. Of the Keys ten runs six were scored with two outs including all five in the fateful fourth inning.
Leading 2-0, CF Miguel Abreu singled to center field with two out and the bases empty. Abreu then stole second base as LF Bobby Stevens worked a walk. C Justin Dalles then looped a single into right field to score Abreu giving the Keys a 3-0 lead. The rally still had steam.
Bumbry ripped his third double of the night, one hop and to the wall in left-center field, to score Stevens and up the lead to 4-0. Next up was 2B Jonathan Schoop who blasted a three-run home run to left field and the Keys led 7-0. For Scoop it was his fifth home run as a Key as the Keys second baseman drove home four runs on the night.
The Keys would add on with a fifth inning two-run home run from 1B Mike Flacco (4) and an eighth inning solo home run from Bobby Stevens (4). For Stevens it was his second home run in as many nights back with the Keys.
Frederick once again struggled in the field as Schoop (2), 3B Dale Mollenhauer (1) and Dalles (1) all committed errors. Of the six runs allowed, only two were earned against Keys pitchers.
With the win Keys manager Orlando Gomez racked up his franchise-tying 147th managerial win. He is tied with Bien Figeroa (2005-06) who piloted the Keys to consecutive Mills Cup Finals Appearances along with the 2005 Mills Cup Championship.
The Keys continue its four-game series in Lynchburg Saturday, August 21st as LHP Nathan Moreau will take the hill. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and coverage will begin 20 minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
Frederick will return home for its final regular season homestand of 2011 Monday, August 22nd at 7:00 p.m. It will be the final Kids Eat Free Monday of 2011! Also Playoff tickets are currently available for the Keys attempted run at the Mills Cup. For tickets contact the Keys at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
