Amarillo Bulls News Release
Amarillo, TX - Matt Allen's eighth goal of the season sparked a late offensive surge, as the Amarillo Bulls score three unanswered goals in the third period to hand the Lone Star Brahmas their first loss of the season in a 6-3 victory on Friday night.
The first period of action was actioned-packed from the opening faceoff, and the Bulls wasted little time taking advantage of home ice, as Allen tucked home a bouncing puck for the opening goal of the game just 5:32 into the opening frame.
Amarillo would soon find itself with a 2-0 lead just under three minutes later as Niclas Puikonen slotted his second tally of the season.
The lead was quickly cut in half by the Brahmas' Skylar Gutierrez's goal off an odd-man rush, and then erased by Joey Baez's goal off a draw win in the Bulls' defensive end.
Jordan Venegoni returned the lead to Amarillo after he took a Devan Tongue pass in stride and buried a breakaway opportunity past Lone Star's Ludvig Persson.
The second period saw just one goal, as Lone Star tied the game at 3-3 when CJ Walker netted a goal from a feed into the slot.
With the score toed 3-3 at the start of the third, the Bulls pressured the Lone Star defense repeatedly, but to no avail.
Just beyond the mid-way point in the final frame, the Bulls saw Allen net his second goal of the night, his eighth of the season, to give the Bulls the 4-3 advantage. With the goal, Allen has score three goals in his last two contests.
A short time after, David Hill would record his first goal of the season for the Bulls when he batted a saved, Noah Carlin shot out of the air.
With Lone Star's back against the wall and the net empty, Nick Trela iced the game for Amarillo with the empty net goal that secured the 6-3 victory.
The Bulls recorded double-digit shots in all three periods, pelting the Brahmas' goaltending tandem of Persson and Cayden Bailey with 44 shots.
The Bulls and the Brahmas will exchange pleasantries, again, on Saturday night inside the Budweiser Bull Pen. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05 PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
