Odessa Jackalopes News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - When all was said and done, the Jackalopes' scoring drought lasted 223 minutes and 15 seconds. Unfortunately the Jackalopes could not end their loosing streak as they fell to the Corpus Christi IceRays for the fifth consecutive game. This time falling 5-2 to the Rays on Friday night at the American Bank Center.
The Jackalopes got on the board first after Jan Blasko found a rebound in front and buried the puck into a wide-open net to score his third goal of the season. It not only ended the Jackalope's scoreless streak but also gave the Jacks some newfound life.
Unfortunately, that life did not last long as the IceRays scored three goals to close out the first period. One was a short-handed wrap-around, the second was a power-play goal and the third was scored on even strength.
This put the Jacks in a 3-1 deficit that they could not climb out of.
Both teams traded goals in the second period, with the Rays scoring off a deflection and the Jackalopes scoring off an Aeden Drossos shot as he streaked in on the left side on a two-one-one. Electing to shoot, Drossos picked his spot and riffled a hard wrist-shot into the top corner to give the Jacks a chance down 4-2.
But when the IceRays converted on a power play to start the third period, they put the game out of reach. Though the Jackalopes had power play opportunities of their own, they failed to convert and find the back of the net.
Despite the loss, the Jackalopes can take the positive aspect that their scoring drought is over. With that out of their mind, they can focus on ending the winless streak that has plagued them for the past five games. They will have an opportunity to do just that on Saturday night when they conclude their Corpus Christi road trip at 7:05 pm.
