WEEKEND REWIND: The Amarillo Bulls kicked off the month of February by taking two from the Texas Tornado last weekend at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. TJ Sarcona scored twice as the Bulls bounced Texas 5-1 on Friday night. Mike Davis, Tyler Gernhofer and Gage Christianson earned the other goals. On Saturday, Brady Ferguson and Ryan Cole tallied in the second period and goaltender Paul Berrafato did the rest as Amarillo nipped the Tornado 2-1.
The Wichita Falls Wildcats took three against the Odessa Jackalopes in West Texas. On Thursday, Wichita Falls tripped Odessa 6-2. Former Bulls' forward Conor O'Neil had the game winner as the Wildcats held on to edge the Jackalopes 5-4. On Saturday it took a shootout for the Wildcats to beat the Jackalopes 4-3 with Colin Staub getting the winning goal.
WHAT'S UP FOR GRABS: The Amarillo Bulls will look for their third win in a row and maintain their South Division lead of at least three points over the second place Texas Tornado, while still having three games in hand. The Wichita Falls Wildcats are trying to track down the Corpus Christi IceRays for the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division. The IceRays own a five point advantage but Wichita Falls has two games in hand.
BULLS NOTES: Leading after 40 minutes is important to the Amarillo Bulls on the road this season. The Bulls are 12-0-1 when leading after 40 minutes, but are a surprising 0-4-0 when behind. It's still first place in goals for and against as well as shots for and against for Dennis Williams charges. The Bulls have yielded just two goals per game including an average of one in their last four contests. Forwards Mike Davis and Ryan Cole have a combined 17 goals on the road this season, while TJ Sacona and John Rey have 30 assists combined.
