Amarillo Bulls News Release
Amarillo, TX - Five unanswered goals propelled the Amarillo Bulls past the Topeka Pilots, 6-1, on Friday night in the Budweiser Bull Pen.
Amarillo didn't wait long to get on the scoreboard, as Devan Tongue tucked a rebound into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead after a powerplay opportunity. Topeka answered, quickly, when Vincent Corcoran found the back of the net to make the score 1-1. After the Bulls went shorthanded, later in the period, Jordan Venegoni netted a shorthanded goal to retake the lead for Amarillo. The Bulls extended their lead with Tongue's second of the game, with time winding down in the opening frame.
Taking a page from their first period playbook, the Bulls scored just 1:10 into the second period when Ty Black wristed a puck from the slot and into the back of the net. After the Pilots made a goaltending change, replacing Guy Blessing for Josh Langford, Amarillo would, again, find the back of the net, as Matt Allen scored from the high slot for his 20th goal of the season.
In the opening moments of the third period, Black would tally his second of the game, bringing the score to the eventual final of 6-1.
Charlie Glockner would stop 20 of 21 shots and earn his 16th victory of the season.
With the win, the Bulls are now 35-7-1-2 with 73 points and hold sole possession of the South Division lead.
The Bulls remain at home, in the Budweiser Bull Pen on Saturday, February 8, to take on the Topeka Pilots. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
