Bulls Fall 4-1 to Brahmas on Monday Afternoon.

NORTH RICHLAND, HILLS, TX - The Amarillo Bulls gave the Lone Star Brahmas all they could handle on Monday afternoon at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills, TX. However, in the end the offense could only manage one goal on Jake Kupsky and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Brahmas.

The Bulls missed their opportunity to use a vital game in on the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the race for the sixth and final playoff spot in the South Division. The two teams are still tied for sixth with the Bulls being placed ahead due to more wins.

AJ Duggan netted the lone Bulls goal after the Brahmas had moved out to a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. It was Anton Martinsson's first loss in three games.

The Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas had a rare Monday afternoon face-off and it was the hometown Brahmas that tallied the lone goal in the first 70 seconds of the game. The Bulls settled down, played better and kept the Brahmas at bay. The Bulls were outshot 14-6 in the first stanza.

In the second period, the Brahmas extended their lead to 2-0 scoring off a shot from a face-off that deflected in front of the net. Eighteen seconds later, the Bulls got on the board and erased that marker. The line of JJ Huerena, Addison Runey and AJ Duggan worked hard deep inside the Brahmas zone. Huerena centered the puck to Duggan who was able to push it past Kupsky. The Bulls penalty killing was tested in the final five minutes and prevented the Brahmas from getting further ahead. Each team had five shots on goal.

It was the Bulls that came out and dictated play in the third period and had the Brahmas on the run. Lone Star scored a key goal shorthanded when a player was able to get behind the Bulls defense. The last seven minutes was all Bulls as the hometown Brahmas looked tired. Head Coach Jon Rogger pulled the goaltender in the final two minutes and despite sustained pressure his charges were unable to score. Lone Star rounded out the scoring with an empty net marker.

Even though the Bulls outshot their opponent 14-8 in the third period, it was the Brahmas have the edge in the final total 27-25. There were six total power plays with neither team being able to score.

It's back on the road for the Amarillo Bulls this Friday and Saturday when they visit the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum.
