Amarillo Bulls News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Bulls secured an important point in the South Division title race but fell short to the Topeka Pilots, 3-2, in the shootout on Saturday night.

After a back-and-forth start during the opening minutes of action, Amarillo went on the powerplay and found the back of the net when Nick Trela scored his 11th of the season to give the Bulls the 1-0 lead.

The second period began with Topeka's answering goal, as Quinn Green leveled the score at 1-0. Moments later, Gleb Murtazin slid a pass across the top of the crease that caught the pads of a back-skating defender and deflected into the back of the net. Later in the period, Shawn Kennedy would take advantage of a Topeka powerplay and bring the score line to 2-2.

The two sides would skate to a stalemate in the third period and headed to the overtime frame which ultimately resulted in a tie score line despite numerous chances for both teams.

In the shootout, Quinn Green would score on the opening Topeka attempt and would be the only skater for either side to do so, winning the game for the Pilots.

With the loss, the Bulls are now 35-7-1-3 with 74 points and hold sole possession of the South Division lead.

The Bulls take to the road on Thursday, February 13, to take on the Shreveport Mudbugs. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:11PM CST on Mixlr.com and Hockey TV.
