Amarillo Bulls News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - One hundred and twenty minutes...
That's the number of minutes that goaltender Paul Berrafato has gone without allowing a goal. The Amarillo Bulls provided Berrafato plenty of offense, including four in the third period as they blanked the Lone Star Brahmas 7-0 at NYTEX Center in North Richland Hills, TX. The victory moved the Bulls four points clear in first place in the South Division. The Bulls also lead the overall standings thanks to the sweep of the Brahmas.
Matt Sieckhaus tallied twice for Amarillo and chipped in two assists, while Brendan Vetter, Ryan Stevens, Joe Grabowski, Mike Davis, Kyle Gattelaro and Mitchell McPherson netted the others. Roman Ammirato added three assists while Vetter assisted on two more.
It was a quick start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls as they took the play early to the Lone Star Brahmas. The Bulls got on the board first as Brendan Vetter connected on the power play with a good shot on the far side that beat goaltender Shane Joyce. Matt Sieckhaus and Roman Ammirato added assists on the play at the 2:43 mark. The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 9-4.
The Bulls dominated the second period and tallied two big goals. Ryan Stevens scored just after his teammates had killed off a 5 on 3 penalty. Stevens put the puck just under the cross bar at the 4:58 mark from Matt Sieckhaus. Three minutes later the Bulls struck again as Matt Sieckhaus tapped home a shot from Brendan McGuire. Joe Grabowski earned an assist on the play at 7:40. Amarillo's puck pressure was the difference in the period and in the game through 40 minutes as at times the Brahmas couldn't get out of their own zone.
The third period was all Amarillo, netting four goals, including two more via the power play. Joe Grabowski fired a power play goal from Mitchell McPherson and Connor Frey just 5:30 into the stanza. Seven minutes, Mike Davis tipped home a shot from Roman Ammirato to make it 5-0. The offense continued for the Bulls a short time later when Matt Sieckhaus banged home his second of the game scramble in front of the net from Brendan Vetter and Cody Gylling. Mitchell McPherson rounded out the scoring when he followed up his own rebound from Connor Frey and Joe Grabowski at 18:19.
Paul Berrafato stopped all 16 shots he faced including some difficult ones in the final period to preserve his third shutout of the season. Each team had six power play attempts in the game with the Bulls scoring three times.
