Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - During the long unbeaten string, the Amarillo Bulls have found different ways to win.
On Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center, it was all about the defense and shutting down the visiting Corpus Christi IceRays offense and limiting them to just two goals in a 5-2 triumph. The Bulls extended their unbeaten string to 18 games (15-0-2-1) and stretched their winning streak to 10 games and first place lead to 13 points.
Scoring for the Bulls were Jake Willets, Jordan Venegoni, Brett Abdelnour, Logan Jenuwine and Brenden Datema. Gabriel Seger provided assists on two of the goals. Jason Grande was solid in goal stopping 34 of 36 shots he faced.
The Bulls trailed 2-1 midway through the second period before striking for four straight goals, including two late in that middle stanza, and then a couple of power play goals in the final 20 minutes.
The two teams traded goals in the first period as Jake Willets scored on a blast from the point on a perfect pass from Brett Abdelnour and Jordan Venegoni. The IceRays pulled even on a set face-off play as Nikita Krivokrasov scored with a shot from the face-off dot. Amarillo outshot Corpus Christi 10-2 early in the first period, but the visitors rallied with a flurry of activity and the margin finished 12-11.
Jake Stella gave Corpus Christi a 2-1 advantage midway through the second period when he and Kyle Moore converted an odd-man rush. Just over two minutes later, the Bulls tied the game when Jordan Venegoni scored on a two-on-one break from Jake Willets and Louis Helsen. In the final minute of the period, Logan Jenuwine got away from the IceRays' defender and fired the puck past goaltender Sam Best to give the home side the lead. Corpus Christi outshot Amarillo 18-14 in the period.
The third period was all about special teams for the Bulls as the power play went to work with two goals. Brett Abdelnour scored at the side of the net from Gabriel Seger and Trey Bagwell. Brenden Datema rounded out the scoring with a blast from the point from Nick Anderson and Segar. Defensively, Rocky Russo's charges were solid limiting the opposition to just seven shots.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Corpus Christi IceRays 37-36.
