Bulls' Bats Blast Nine To Down Chiefs

Durham, NC-The Bulls combined three home runs with solid all-around pitching to beat the Chiefs, 9-1, and split the four-game series Wednesday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Durham struck first when Elliot Johnson connected for a three-run home run off Kane Davis (2-5, 3.91) in the sixth inning. Nobody crossed the plate again for either side until the eighth inning, when the Bulls sent ten batters to the plate and scored six times. Hector Gimenez drove Bubba Nelson's first offering of the inning into the Diamond View seats for his second home run of the year. After Justin Ruggiano struck out, the Bulls loaded the bases for Reid Brignac, who drove in two with a double to the right field wall. Elliot Johnson brought got his fourth run batted in on a groundout that scored Joel Guzman. Jeremy Owens capped off the rally with a two-run home run off the foul pole in left.

Ben Hendrickson (3-2, 2.41) earned the win with five innings of shutout baseball, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out a pair. He was followed by Juan Salas, Dale Thayer and Nick DeBarr who combined to allow three hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts the rest of the way.

The Toledo Mud Hens visit the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for a four-game series starting Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The Bulls have not yet announced their probable starter, but they will face off against righty Chris Lambert (5-1, 2.21).
