Bulls and Topeka in First Place Showdown in Amarillo this Weekend

AMARILLO, TX - All eyes will be on the South Division this weekend for a first place show down between the Amarillo Bulls and the visiting Topeka RoadRunners. The Bulls split a pair of games with New Mexico over the weekend to fall one point back of first place. This, despite having the best winning percentage and several games in hand.

UPCOMING GAMES: A five game home-stand begins for the Amarillo Bulls this weekend when they host the Topeka RoadRunners Friday and Saturday night at 7 pm, in The Bull Pen at the Amarillo Civic Center. The stretch also includes games against the Wichita Falls Wildcats, Corpus Christi IceRays and the New Mexico Mustangs.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: On Saturday, the Bulls will host Get A Job Night where several local businesses will be set up on the concourse for a mini job fair.

SONIC SUNDAY, JANUARY 23: for the first time in Amarillo hockey history, the Bulls and Sonic America's Drive-In present Sonic Sunday. This is an opportunity for fans to come watch a Bulls game for free versus the Corpus Christi IceRays on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 6 pm. Tickets are available first come, first serve and still required for admission to this game. Tickets can be picked up at the Civic Center Box Office, the Bulls office located at 901 South Buchanan or by calling 806-242-1122.

STATS PACK:

GOAL MARGIN GREATER THAN. . . : The Amarillo Bulls have a mark of 14-3-0 when the margin of a game is two goals or more. It is interesting to note that the Bulls are unbeaten 6-0-0 in two-goal games.

THE NUMBERS GAME: Forwards Zack Smoot, Matt Johnson, Cody Freeman and Mitch Rogge have each scored five goals in their last 10 games. A balanced scoring attack has been evident in the Bulls last 10 games, as all but two players on the current roster have had at least one point.

BULLS VS TOPEKA: The Amarillo Bulls have had a terrific season series against the Topeka RoadRunners, wining four of the six games. Dan Sherer has four goals, while Chris Cass has three. Cass also leads the team in shots on goal with 18. The Bulls have outscored Topeka 10-1 in the third periods.

WEEKEND REWIND:

NEW MEXICO 5 - AMARILLO 2: The Bulls suffered just their sixth regulation loss of the season when they were beaten 5-2 by New Mexico on Friday night. TJ Sarcona tallied in the second period for the Bulls, while Mitch Rogge added one in the final stanza. In two instances during the game, the Bulls had cut a two goal deficit down to one, but couldn't get any closer.

AMARILLO 7 - NEW MEXICO 3: Three third-period markers broke open a close 4-3 game at the time and lifted the Bulls past New Mexico 7-3. Matt Johnson's second goal of the game was key in this one as he scored shorthanded to start the third period and increase his team's lead to 5-3. Cody Freeman, TJ Sarcona, Mitche Rogge, Ricky DeRosa and Zack Smoot netted the other goals. Brandon Lubin set up three goals, while Michael Erickson added two helpers. The Bulls fired 50 shots on net including 21 in the third period.
