FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Mighty Mussels' bullpen tossed five scoreless innings Thursday, but the offense couldn't muster a run in a 1-0 loss to the Bradenton Marauders at Hammond Stadium.

The Fort Myers' relievers surrendered only one hit and two walks over five innings, striking out seven. Steven Cruz fanned three in the middle innings before Osiris German struck out a pair over two scoreless. Denny Bentley worked a perfect top of the ninth, fanning two of the three men he faced.

However, the Mussels' bats went quiet against Bradenton starter Santiago Florez (5-1). Florez twirled six scoreless frames, striking out seven while allowing just one hit and two walks. He lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.32.

The Marauders scored their lone run in the top of the second against Fort Myers starter Brent Headrick (3-3). Maikol Escotto started the inning with a walk before Dariel Lopez lashed a single to right. The next batter was Alexander Mojica, who walked to load the bases. Ernny Ordonez then lofted a pop up down the first base line towards the tarp. Aaron Sabato made a running over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory, but Escotto tagged and came home to score with the game's only run.

Sabato was the only Mighty Mussels' hitter to reach base multiple times. Justin Washington beat out a ground ball for an infield single in the bottom of the eighth, but was left stranded in scoring position.

The Mussels' have a chance to even the series with a doubleheader sweep on Friday. LHP Zarion Sharpe (2-1, 6.75) starts Game 1 for Fort Myers, against RHP Nick Garcia (3-1, 3.38). First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long (4-2, 5.55) gets the nod in Game 2, opposed by Logan Hofmann (3-1, 1.86) of Bradenton. Coverage begins at 4:15 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
