Bullfrogs Win a Thriller in Extras
June 5, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - It's opening week in the Northwoods League, presented by Edvest. The weather reared its ugly head again, an hour-long weather delay halted action for the 3rd straight day. But it didn't affect the Bullfrogs as they won in extra innings against the Lakeshore Chinooks, 3-2.
The Bullfrogs started the bottom of the 10th inning with a double by Randell Kanemaru down the left field line. Hamilton attempted to give himself up with a sacrifice bunt but Austin Jones mishandled the bunt, first and third Bullfrogs. Chris Botsoe stepped to the plate and hit a single to shallow left field, Kanemaru was unable to score, bases now loaded for Laren Eustace. Eustace hit in to a force out to the first baseman Johnson. Matt Johnson threw the ball home to get Kanemaru at the plate. Bases still loaded with one out, Marcus Shoemaker stepped to the plate. After getting down 0-2 in the count, Shoemaker fought his way back into the at-bat. The 3-2 pitch by Jones was high and outside. Shoemaker walks to bring in Hamilton for the win.
Stuart Springer got the start for the Bullfrogs, as he went five and a third innings, only allowing one run to score. Another masterful performance from the Bullfrog bullpen as Logan Elliot, Jeremy Graf, BJ Sabol, and Harrisen Egly combined to throw five and two third innings, allowing only two hits and striking out nine.
Jesse Berardi, in his first action in a Bullfrogs uniform, had two hits and two RBIs. Shoemaker had one hit, scored one run, and drove in the winning run.
The Bullfrogs are back in action tomorrow night as they head to Battle Creek to take on the Bombers. First pitch is at 6:05pm.
