Bullfrogs Highlight Players' College Seasons
May 22, 2013 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
With the 2013 season just a week away, let's check on how some of the 2013 Bullfrogs are doing with their college teams!
Ryan Matranga-Catcher, University of San Francisco
Matranga, or "Tadpole" as he was affectionately nicknamed, was the youngest Bullfrog last year. He joined the Bullfrogs in early July despite not having played an inning of collegiate baseball. Now in his freshman year with the Diamond Dons, Matranga has played in 39 games, collecting 22 hits in 105 at bats, good for a .210 average. He has also pounded three home runs and driven in 17 runs this season. San Francisco, which has three Bullfrogs on its roster, takes on Gonzaga, which also has three Bullfrogs, on Thursday in the first round of the WCC Tournament.
Travis Duke-Left-handed pitcher, University of Texas
The tall southpaw has posted a 4-1 record in 27 relief appearances on the season. Duke has tossed a total of 35.1 innings on the mound in 2013, posting a 1.53 ERA, which is tops among all incoming Bullfrogs. In addition, opponents are hitting .213 off of him. It's been a down year for the normally tough Longhorns, however. They are just 27-24 overall and 7-16 in Big 12 play.
Nick Favatella-Infielder, Rutgers University
The junior infielder leads the Scarlet Knights in triples (5), defensive assists (149), slugging percentage (.457) and stolen bases (12). He's also blasted three home runs and driven home 27 runs offensively. Favatella has also only committed five errors defensively. His Scarlet Knights are 26-28 on the season, and 14-10 in Big East play.
Jordan Wright-Right-handed pitcher, Henderson State University
This Division II stud was the most recent addition to the Bullfrogs' roster. As a relief pitcher, Wright has accounted for four of Henderson State's 24 wins on the season. He has tossed 46 innings, more than any other reliever on his team, and posted a 1.57 ERA in the 2013 season.
The Bullfrogs' home opener is May 30 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Individual and season ticket packages are still available.
