Green Bay, WI. - The visiting Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (23-17) used a four-run, five-hit eighth inning to squeak past the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (13-28) by a final score of 7-6 at Joannes Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Bullfrogs had a three-run advantage in the sixth inning before the Dock Spiders rallied back.
The Dock Spiders struck first in the fourth and fifth frames, scoring one run each on two Green Bay errors to grab the early 2-0 advantage. The Bullfrogs answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI walks from Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) and Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) to knot the score at 2-2.
Fond du Lac took the 3-2 lead in the sixth inning after Sam Cohen scored on a wild pitch. The Bullfrogs responded in the home half with four runs on just one hit to take a 6-3 advantage.
Green Bay's scoring stretch began with Blake Nelson (Junior, Michigan) scoring on an error followed by the go-ahead RBI single by Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) to put the Frogs in front 4-3. Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC) then delivered a RBI ground out before Damla drew his second RBI walk of the game to extend the lead out to 6-3.
Fond du Lac soon tallied a crucial four-spot in the eighth inning to quickly take back the lead at 7-6. The Dock Spiders laced a trio RBI singles from Cohen, Jordan Prendiz and Jack Wassel to tie the contest up at 6-6. Braden Stutzman then scored on a wild pitch to put the visitors ahead by one run to complete the rally.
Alejandro Gonzalez led the Bullfrogs offense with a season-high 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a RBI. Damla went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while Acosta finished 1-for-4 with one run driven in.
Fond du Lac relief pitcher Connor Cook earned the win, improving to 1-1. Green Bay reliever Cody Norman (Sophomore, Univ. of La Verne) took the loss, falling to 0-1. Dock Spiders righty Zach Bryant earned his sixth save of the season.
