Rockford, IL - The Hamilton Bulldogs shut out the Rockford IceHogs 5-0 on Wednesday evening in Rockford. Brock Trotter recorded two goals for the fourth time this month while Matt D'Agostini and Max Pacioretty each earned an assist in their first game back with the 'Dogs. The shutout was the 'Dogs sixth road shutout of the year, a new franchise record for shutouts on the road in one season.
The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 7:49 of the first period. D'Agostini received a pass from P.K. Subban before firing a shot towards the net. Greg Stewart redirected the shot that snuck past Rockford starting goaltender Corey Crawford and into the back of the net.
The 'Dogs took a 2-0 lead at 11:36 of the second stanza. Tom Pyatt sent a pass to Grant Stevenson, who was positioned in the slot. Stevenson proceeded to rifle a shot that sailed over the right shoulder of Crawford, off the crossbar and into the back of the net. Trotter gave Hamilton a 3-0 lead at 13:29. Subban sent the puck to Trotter, who fired a shot that bounced off the blocker of Crawford and into the back of the net.
Trotter scored his second goal of the game at 1:26 of the final frame. Pacioretty received the puck from David Desharnais before blasting a shot on net that was saved by Crawford. The goaltender could not control the rebound, which bounced out to Trotter, who whacked the puck past Crawford.
Following the goal, Joe Fallon replaced Crawford between the pipes for the IceHogs.
The Bulldogs added their fifth goal of the game at 14:15. Shawn Belle received a pass from Ryan Russell before hammering a shot that was stopped by Fallon. While stationed in front of the net, Conboy batted the loose puck out of mid-air and into the back of the net.
