Brewster Bulldogs News Release
Brewster, NY - Despite how wide of a margin the final score was, it was a much, much closer game that it appears. Tonight it was a case of a hot goaltender that propelled the Danville Dashers to victory over the hometown Brewster Bulldogs.
Danville would score the first four goals of the game, from Gehrett Sargis and Brent Clarke in the 1st period, and Daniel Turgeon for two goals in the 2nd. The Bulldogs peppered Matt Anthony with shot after shot, including deflections, rebounds and close in opportunities, everything but the kitchen sink, but Matt Anthony had an answer for everything until the Bulldogs went on the power play and Dan Loughlin found a way to get past Anthony to make it 4-1. Brewster, trying to build on their young reputation of comebacks, a la last year's Calgary Flames, rookie Nikolai Oklolbystin would score early in the 3rd to make it 4-2. Brewster heavily outplayed Danville in the 3rd and once again it was Anthony who stole the show. And then it would be Danville ending James Robbins' night with a late 3rd period goal from Grant Holliday, then an empty net goal by Brad Denney would seal the contest after a cameo appearence from former Danbury Whaler goaltender Mike Pearless, who did not face a single shot. If its any consolation for the Bulldogs, they played extremely well tonight, outshooting Danville 50 to 25, puck luck was simply not on their side tonight. So even though the Dashers will benefit heavily from tonight to go 3-0 to start the year, the Bulldogs have plenty to take into tomorrow night's game against Danbury.
For Brewster, Loughlin and Oklolbystin have a goal a piece, and Cory Giroux, Zach Hale, and Mike Zanella have an assist each. James Robbins stopped 20 of 25 shots in the loss. For Danville, Dan Turgeon had two goals, Brad Denney and Grant Holliday had a goal and assist each, Brent Clarke and Gehrett Sargis tallied a goal each, and A.J. Tesoriero and Justin Brausen had two assists each. Matt Anthony stopped 48 of 50 shots to earn the victory.
The Brewster Bulldogs are home tomorrow and play the Danbury Titans, and meanwhile the Danville Dashers are off to take on the Berlin River Drivers in Berlin's home opener tomorrow night. 152 fans showed up at tonight's contest at the Brewster Ice Arena.
