Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. A heartbreaking loss for the Hamilton Bulldogs as they dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the North Bay Battalion Saturday night at FirstOntario Centre.
The loss also spoiled an excellent outing from Bulldogs rookie goaltender Cole Ceci who stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced in the best outing of his young OHL career.
North Bay got on the board first at 8:55 of the first period, but the Bulldogs responded 36 seconds later as Marian Studenic (4) made it 1-1 with assists to Will Bitten and Michael Cramarossa.
Hamilton took the lead at 6:18 of the second period as Matthew Strome (8) scored on the power-play finishing off a pretty passing play with Mackenzie Entwistle and Matt Luff.
That was the only scoring as the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead to the dressing room after forty minutes.
The two team traded chances in the 3rd period and the Bulldogs killed off a four minute penalty to maintain the lead in the late going, but with the North Bay goalie on the bench, Battalion defenseman Cam Dineen beat Cole Ceci to tie the game at 2-2 with 59.9 seconds left in regulation.
That sent the game to 3 on 3 overtime, the first time the Bulldogs had gone to extra time this season. Hamilton had a great chance to win the game as Will Bitten and Michael Cramarossa came down alone on Battalion goalie Brent Moran, but he made a save sending Steve Harland back the other way. Harland placed a perfect shot that beat Ceci to the short side for the game winner.
With the overtime loss, the Bulldogs season record is now 7-3-1-0.
They're right back at it Sunday afternoon as they host the defending Memorial Cup Champion London Knights in the annual Pink in the Rink game. Game time at FirstOntario Centre is 2 o'clock.
