Bulldogs Earn First Win of Preseason

HAMILTON - The Hamilton Bulldogs earned their first win of the 2003-04 preseason as they defeated the Toronto Roadrunners 5-2 at Copps Coliseum on Sunday evening. The Bulldogs preseason record now stands at one win and one loss.

Jerome Marois led the way offensively for the Bulldogs as he earned three goals in the contest. Marois now leads the Bulldogs with four preseason goals. Also, scoring for Hamilton were Jozef Balej and Eric Laplante. The Roadrunners responded with goals from Joe Cullen and Kenton Smith.

Bulldogs goaltender Michel Bergevin-Robinson stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced. The Roadrunners once again split the goaltending duties. Kristian Antila made 15 saves on 18 shots, while Michael Morrison stopped 10 of 12 shots.

On special teams the Bulldogs scored four power play goals on 10 opportunities. The Roadrunners were 0 for 10 with the man-advantage.

The Bulldogs will continue their preseason action this week with a three-game trip to Newfoundland, where they will face the St. John's Maple Leafs. Hamilton will play the Maple Leafs in Corner Brook (Oct. 2), Gander (Oct. 3) and St. John's (Oct. 5)

The Bulldogs will have two on-ice practices this week prior to leaving for Newfoundland. The Bulldogs will practice on Monday, Sept. 29 and Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Chedoke Twin Pad Arena in Hamilton. Practices will begin at 11:00 a.m. and are open to the public.
