HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Matt Luff scored the game winning goal halfway through the third period to give the Hamilton Bulldogs (24-33-8-0) a 2-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves (16-44-4-1) Saturday evening at the FirstOntario Centre.
After a scoreless first period, Hamilton got on the board first 7:03 into the second period. Michael Cramarossa created a turnover in the Sudbury zone and wristed a shot over the glove hand of Sudbury starting netminder Zack Bowman. The goal was unassisted.
The Wolves answered at 14:23 as a pass into the slot by Mikkel Aagaard left an open net for Alan Lyszczarczyk to put home his fifteenth goal of the year. Defenceman Kyle Capobianco had the secondary assist.
The winning goal came at 13:36 of the third period when a strong Hamilton cycle resulted in a beautiful backhand pass from Niki Petti to Luff who one-timed it through the five hole of Bowman. Matthew Strome also had an assist on Luff's team leading fifty-third point of the year.
Hicks made 27 saves in the win for Hamilton, while Bowman made 34 saves in the loss. Hamilton went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Sudbury was also 0-for-4 with the man advantage. The Bulldogs conclude their home schedule tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Niagara IceDogs on Fan Appreciation Day at the FirstOntario Centre. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
