March 30, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brantford Bulldogs News Release
The Hamilton Bulldogs won their ever OHL playoff series with a 4-1-win Friday night over the Ottawa 67's, taking the first-round series in five games.
The Bulldogs were on fire early and kept the 67's hemmed in their own zone. Matthew Strome (2) set up in front of the Ottawa net a tipped one home at 4:38 to give Hamilton a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs then got their 9th power-play goal of the series as Nicholas Caamano (2) gave the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead at 12:19.
The 67's came out a little harder in the 2nd period and it resulted in a goal at 10:55 as the Hamilton lead was cut to 2-1. However, Ottawa got into penalty trouble and Brandon Saigeon (7) made them pay with his OHL leading 5th power-play goal at 12:44 to make it 3-1. The 67's had a chance to cut the Hamilton lead, but Mitchell Hoelscher failed to convert on a penalty-shot.
The Bulldogs went into shut-down mode in the 3rd period and despite a flurry late, the 67's were held off the board and then Isaac Nurse (2) scored into the empty net to make the final 4-1.
Hamilton out-shot Ottawa 28-24.
The 67's goal scorer was Tye Felhaber (2).
3 STARS:
1) Ryan Moore (HAM)
