November 23, 2020 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (5-1) scored three unanswered goals in the third period to rally past the New Mexico Ice Wolves, 6-4 for their second straight sweep and fourth straight overall victory.
Shreveport played a better first period than they did last night and generated a 12-7 lead in SOG which helped generate the game's first goal at 18:20. It was Jacob OnStott who scraped in his first goal of the season with great work in goal mouth to make it a 1-0 contest. Dawson Sciarrino and John Hallard earned the assists on the period's only tally.
New Mexico took advantage of a double-minor high sticking call on Dilan Peters and got goals from Spencer Rudrud and Cole Hanson at :44 and 2:36 respectively to give the Ice Wolves a 2-1 lead. The Bugs responded when OnStott fired home his second goal of the game and season from the LW circle at 4:13 to tie the game, 2-2. Billy Feczko and Davis Goukler earned the helpers. New Mexico retook the lead when Michael McCosh scored at 4:34 to make it a 3-2 contest. Shreveport responded yet again when Austin Brimmer banged in his fourth goal of the season from the far side in front assisted by Chris Hedden and Feczko at 14:07 to tie the game again, 3-3. The Bugs led in SOG, 26-18 after two periods of play.
New Mexico regained the lead again at 1:02 of the third period when Cole Hanson scored again to give the Ice Wolves a 4-3 lead. The Bugs responded with three unanswered tallies starting with Feczko firing home his second goal of the season from the near circle to tie the game up again, 4-4. Shreveport would take the lead at 8:30 when Sciarrino squeezed in his second goal of the year from the short side to give the Mudbugs a 5-4 edge. The Bugs would hold off a late surge from the Wolves and put the icing on the cake when Gio Procopio pelted in a EN goal to make it a 6-4 contest. It was Procopio's third tally of the season.
Shreveport out-shot New Mexico 44-30 for their fourth straight victory.
The Bugs will return to the Nytex Sports Centre on "Black Friday" to begin a two-game series against their arch-rival in the Lone Star Brahmas. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ¬â¹
