Bugs Drop Series Opener to IceRays
October 13, 2023 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-4-1) rallied to tie it early in third only to give up the go-ahead seven seconds later and fell 3-2 to the Corpus Christi IceRays at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Friday night.
After a scoreless opening period, the IceRays netted goals at 1:55 and 6:54 from Zakhar Polshakov and Dylan Jensen respectively to take the 2-0 edge. SHV responded at 6:54 as Logan Heroux got in alone and after he was denied on a few attempts along the short side, he was able to punch in his fifth goal of the campaign to make it a 2-1 contest.
The Bugs would find the equalizer at 1:24 of the third period as Colin Vassallo came in down low and rattled in his third goal of the season along the short side to even the score, 2-2. Ian Emery earned the only helper on the game-tying tally. The game wouldn't stay tied for long as at 1:31, it was Connor Brust thrusted in his first goal of the season from the left point through traffic to give the IceRays, 3-2. SHV would generate some chances, but couldn't tie the game again and dropped their second series opening game in a row.
The Bugs and Rays will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. After tomorrow's contest, we will be auctioning off our Renee's Run specialty jerseys.
