Bugs Cruise Past Ice Wolves for Series Split

The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-3-1) netted four PP goals to lead the way to a comfortable 5-2 victory over the New Mexico Ice Wolves to split their series at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.

Shreveport got off to a fast start on their first PP chance as Nick Marino found space in the slot and fired home his second goal in as many games at 7:15 of the opening period to give the Bugs an early 1-0 edge. Liam Fleet earned the only assist on the game's opening tally. SHV added another at 14:33 as Ryan Burke swept in a rebound chance for his third goal of the year to push the lead to 2-0. Brent Litchard picked up the only assist after his initial two shots towards the net were denied. Mudbugs led in SOG, 14-7 after one.

After NM got on the board, the Bugs responded in a big way on the PP near the end of the second period. Hayden Nichol got down low from the short side and lifted home his team-leading seventh tally of the season to extend the lead to 3-1 at 16:26. Brayden Cook earned the only helper. SHV got another PP tally as Litchard got space in the slot and smoked in his second goal of the year to make it a 4-1 contest. Kyan Haldenby and Logan Heroux tallied the assists.

After NM scored a PP goal, the Bugs cashed in on their own PP for the fourth time of the night as Marino slammed home a rebound chance for his second goal of the night to close out a convincing 5-2 Bugs' victory over New Mexico.

Carson Dorfman earned his fourth win in net as he made 26 stops on the night.

The Bugs will continue their home-stand next weekend as they'll host the Corpus Christi IceRays beginning next Friday night. It'll be our Renee's Run Fight against Cancer themed weekend where we'll have specialty jerseys worn by our players and auctioned off at the conclusion of this series.
