Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

The Shreveport Mudbugs (15-7-2) went through a see-saw affair against the pesky Corpus Christi IceRays and came up short in the shootout, 6-5 at the American Bank Center Saturday night.

SHV got off to a fast start as Kyan Haldenby ripped in his eighth goal of the year off a faceoff draw win from the LW circle to give the Bugs an early 1-0 lead just 48 seconds into the game. Brent Litchard and Nick Marino earned the assists on the game's first tally. After that, it was all IceRays in the opening period as Carter Krenke scored a pair of goals at 5:33 and 18:01. Max Tedestedt would score a goal in-between Krenke's pair of tallies at 6:11 to give Corpus a 3-1 lead after one.

SHV responded in the second period at 4:54 when Logan Heroux found a loose puck and hammered in his seventh goal of the year from the slot to get the Bugs within a goal at 3-2. Colin Vassallo would then tie the game at 10:51 and flipped in his sixth tally from the RW circle which handcuffed the goalie to even the score, 3-3. The Bugs wouldn't stop there as they regained the lead at 11:50 as Jonah Jasser deflected in his first goal in his NAHL career in front off a perfect shot from Lucas Deeb to give the visiting team a 4-3 edge. Corpus would answer back with another goal from Tedestedt to even the score, 4-4 at 19:23.

The Bugs would get a fortunate bounce off the end glass and it was Vassallo again ramming in his second goal of the game from behind the net to give SHV a 6-5 edge at 10:03 of the third period. The IceRays would have an answer yet again at 11:34 as Mathieu Bourgault would tally in a goal on a breakaway to tie the game, 5-5.

The game would stay tied 5-5 through the rest of the third and OT sending it to a shootout. The only goal scored in the shootout was from Stepan Kuznetsov in the second round as the Bugs drop a tough one, 6-5.

SHV earns a point for their effort as they're 4-0-1 in their last five games.

The Bugs will return home as they'll host a two-game series against the defending Robertson Cup Champion Oklahoma Warriors next Friday and Saturday night. Game one will be on Friday w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It'll be our annual Coca-Cola Christmas-themed series w/ Teddy Bear Toss night on Saturday.
