Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Ken Carroll made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs enjoyed their highest goal total this year in a 7-0 throttling of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Wednesday night at the CenturyTel Center. Eight different Mudbugs recorded multiple points in the game as Bossier-Shreveport shook off a four-game losing streak against Rio Grande Valley and improved to 19-13-4 this season.

Joe Ori started the scoring just 21 seconds into the game and Travis Clayton finished it in the third while in between the 'Bugs scored a season-high four goals during the second period. Brett Smith led the way for Bossier-Shreveport with a goal and two assists while Tyrel Lucas scored back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart in the middle frame and Carroll shut down the Bees' offensive attack.

The 'Bugs got out to their fastest start of the season in this one, scoring a beautiful goal just 21 seconds in. Joe Blaznek and Brett Smith made two great passes to set up Joe Ori, who finished his fifth goal of the year to open the scoring. Later in the period, Brett Smith knocked home a powerplay goal to give Bossier-Shreveport a two-goal lead heading into the locker room.

The Mudbugs then exploded for four goals in the second period to take a stranglehold on the contest. Jeff Kyrzakos was left all alone in front when he received a pass from Clayton and beat Andy Franck high to the stick side at 4:33, making it 3-0. Lucas then scored the next two goals, burying passes from David Rutherford on each to stretch the lead to five and chase Franck from the game. Wiley Rogers would surrender the sixth goal before the period was out when Ori set up Simon Mangos, who made a great move before tucking home the shorthanded goal that made it 6-0 after 40 minutes.

The 'Bugs James DeLory and Rio's Brett Clouthier squared off in a fight midway through third period, with Clouthier getting issued 25 minutes in penalties after an obscene display toward the Mudbugs bench following the bout. Clayton then put the exclamation point on the win at 14:18, deking Rogers before scoring his 12th goal of the season to make it 7-0.

Ken Carroll turned aside 32 Rio Grande Valley shots to earn his ninth victory of the season and extend his own CHL record for career shutouts to 31. Andy Franck took the loss for the Killer Bees, stopping nine of 14 shots before giving way to Rogers, who saved 6 of 8.

The Mudbugs converted one of three powerplays while the Bees were 0 for 5. Rio Grande Valley outshot Bossier-Shreveport 32-22.

The Mudbugs are right back on home ice tomorrow night to take on the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 pm, presented by momslikeme.com.
