(BUFFALO, NY)- The Buffalo Destroyers have acquired OL/DL Elliot Fortune from the New York Dragons in a trade for OL/DL Jerry Sharp.
"We are excited to bring Elliot here to Buffalo," said Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky. "He is a big time pass rusher with NFL experience and he will be a great addition to our team.
Fortune (6-4, 295, Georgia Tech) appeared in four games for the Dragons this season recording 5.5 tackles, two sacks (tied for 10th in the AFL), one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Fortune started the 2002 season with the Carolina Cobras appearing in one game before signing off waivers with New York. He was signed off the Dragons ' practice squad on July 5 and appeared in three games recording two-and-a-half tackles.
Fortune appeared in eight games with the Milwaukee Mustangs recording four tackles in 2001. He played in all 14 games with the New Jersey Red Dogs in 2000 recording a career-high 12.5 tackles and four-and-a-half sacks for 26 yards lost. He spent the 1995 and 1996 NFL campaigns with the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens organization playing on the line. In 1997, Fortune played in 14 games registering 16 tackles and one sack before signing with the Green Bay Packers. He spent the 1998 season with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe.
The Destroyers have placed OL/DL Hardy Mitchell on injured reserve with swelling in his knee and have released OL/DL Terry Grooms.
